The Glasgow Veterinary College was founded in 1862 and incorporated into the University of Glasgow in 1949. The Veterinary Hospital and School buildings are situated on Garscube Estate, four miles north-west of the main University campus. Veterinary Medicine was awarded an excellent award for the quality of teaching in the latest Quality Assessment Results, and the research output of the faculty was also independently rated as 4 meaning the research is judged to be of national and international excellence.
The Veterinary School has also gained the prized American Veterinary Medicine Association (AVMA) accreditation one of only three schools in Europe to receive AVMA recognition. Strict guidelines had to be fulfilled in order to gain this prestigious accreditation. The approval has been given for a period of seven years and has endorsed the academic, research and teaching excellence at the highest level.

The University of Glasgow Companion Animal Diagnostics (CAD) is a UK veterinary diagnostic laboratory specialising in feline and canine virus infections. Through their research, they have developed a unique range of diagnostics for feline and canine viral infections. Consequently they provide state of the art tests and in-depth advice on their use. The services are continually upgraded through their on-going research and development programmes.
CAD aim to provide veterinary surgeons with the best possible support in the diagnosis, treatment and control of infectious diseases of cats and dogs. Their advisory staff of veterinary surgeons have unrivalled experience in the interpretation of results and applying these to disease control programmes.

Since its inception in 1995, the Weipers Centre for Equine Welfare has been providing excellent service to the equine community in the UK. From children's ponies to Cheltenham winners, the Weipers Centre for Equine Welfare caters for every horse and owners need.
All consultations are on a referral only basis and cases are usually seen within one week of initial request. Whenever possible, clinician continuity is arranged for any follow up examinations.
The Centre provides the highest standards of veterinary care, the most advanced diagnostic, therapeutic and surgical techniques. The Small Animal Hospital is an expert referral centre for the treatment of companion animals. It is an acknowledged centre of excellence in Neurology, Oncology, Orthopaedics, Pain Control and Welfare. The hospital works with vets in practice to offer a second opinion and referral service. The Hospital is one of the busiest in the country, seeing almost 9600 cases each year.
