25 June 2004
Bearsden resident Professor Jean McIntosh, Director of Glasgow Caledonian Universitys Midwifery, Nursing and Research Centre was one of a number of distinguished healthcare workers recognised for their services in the Queens Birthday Honours List.
Her OBE award puts her alongside several famous UK specialists including Professor Alan Craft, chair of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, one of the founders of the UK Children's Cancer Study Group.
Prof McIntosh was nominated for recognition in order to draw attention to the many years of research that she has undertaken in the field of community nursing. Dr McIntoshs role involves overseeing a range of research projects most notably evaluating Managed Clinical Networks and the new Nurse Consultant role and exploring aspects of Health Visiting practice as part of the Starting Well Demonstration Project.
Glasgow Caledonian University welcomed Professor McIntosh as a reader in 1989, and she became a personal chair in 1993. She was promoted to her current position as Associate Dean of Research in 2002.
Commenting on her OBE she said:
I am very honoured to receive this award. I am delighted that it will draw deserved attention to the School of Nursing, and to Glasgow Caledonian University.
