Research & Commercial Development

Glasgow Caledonian University is innovative and forward-looking, and is constantly striving to develop and maintain strong links with industry and commerce. The University is committed to the commercialisation of its research findings into products and services of value. As such, the Research & Commercial Development Office (RCD) was to pursue these goals.

In 1997, the Centre for Innovation in Healthcare Technology (CIHT) was funded through the European Regional Development Fund. CIHT provides a link between academics and businesses in the healthcare technology industry. Its role is to facilitate contract research, collaborations and technology transfer between the University and the healthcare industry as a whole. The CIHT will also provide backup and support for start-up and spin-out companies from the University. RCD acts as the university's single entry point for those in business and commerce who wish to access the university's extensive research base and modern facilities. RCD will facilitate contract research, collaborations and technology transfer between the University and industry and offers a wide range of services including:

Identifying potential partners for collaborative and contract research.
Support for collaborative research and consultancy work, including provision of contracts and the costing of projects.
Providing advice and information on sources of funding for research and commercialisation of research.
Assisting with the development of bids for EU funding.
Teaching Company Schemes.
Supporting companies spinning out from the University.
New business development via Technology Transfer.
Licensing of Intellectual Property.
Analysis of business processes.
Training and continuous professional development.
