The weakness of UK business investment in the IT sector during the current cycle is extremely perplexing. Following five years of decline the UK is now lagging behind its international competitors. Some observers speculate that companies have been reluctant to invest because of rising pension costs. Despite a sharp decrease in the rate of decline last year the rising trend in global interest rates would seem to reduce the prospects for a sustained recovery as hurdle rates for investment rise.
So what is the outlook for business investment and in particular what do observable trends suggest for the IT industry? During this workshop Tom will share his thoughts based on some original analysis of current economic data.
Tom Vosa is the Head of Market Economics for the Clydesdale Bank and the wider Australia Bank Group. Tom joined National Australia Bank in 2001 from the Bank of England. His roles involve keeping the bank abreast of relevant economic and financial market development and to have extensive interaction with clients. Tom holds a degree from LSE and a Masters from London University.
