In UK terms, the Scottish bioscience community is well established and yet most of the companies are still in the early stage development phase. A supportive environment is required to ensure that the community continues to mature and flourish and that new organisations are spawned from the community.
While it is not necessary that all those who are working in support of the bioscience sector need to be fully conversant with the complex world of biotechnology, it is helpful to have a basic understanding of the terminology involved. Moreover it is important to understand the idiosyncrasies of bioscience based organisations and why the support provided has to be tailored so differently from that provided to other sectors.
Whistle-stop is a tried and tested course and will explain the complex science of biotechnology in an easy and memorable way, covering a wide range of subjects from genomics to cellomics and ethics to regulation. The course has been specifically designed to encourage participant interaction and discussion, greatly aiding understanding and retention. A bound copy of all course material will be provided to each attendee and will allow individuals to refresh their understanding at a later date ensuring that the benefits of attending are sustained.
Dr Joanna Oliver from IJ Knowledge (IJK) will present the course. IJK was established in January 2003 as a business partnership built on best-practice methods, offering technology and business consultancy services to the Scottish bioscience community. In addition specialist training is delivered to those operating in, and interacting with, the UK's growing biotechnology sector. IJK draws on the combined 30-year experience of the two partners of the Scottish bioscience scene.
To maximise the benefits of attending attendee numbers are limited to 8 participants per course.
