GLASGOW UNIVERSITY DIRECTOR APPOINTED CHAIR OF UNICO

3 December 2004

Dr Kevin Cullen, Director of Research & Enterprise, has been appointed Chairman of UNICO (the University Companies Association) from 23rd November 2004.

UNICO aims to support university technology transfer professionals and associated activities and acts as a network for the exchange of good practice in technology transfer.

Dr Cullen said:

‘UNICO’s goal is to create bridges between universities and the commercial world, something I see as critically important for universities themselves and the economy as a whole. I was very pleased to accept this position, as UNICO plays a key role in tackling the challenges affecting our sector. This was demonstrated recently by UNICO’s leadership on the Schedule 22 issue.

UNICO identified the issue and led the process which resulted in the very welcome resolution announced in the Chancellor’s Pre-Budget Statement on the 2nd of December. We have to thank Tony Raven of Southampton and the rest of the UNICO team for helping to make this happen.’
