Glasgow and the surrounding area is being promoted as a world-class base for oncology practice and research. A multi-media cd-rom entitled The West of Scotland Cancer Collaboration has been produced to highlight the strong links that exist between clinicians, scientists, academics and researchers across the region. It will be used to support recruitment, and to illustrate the considerable developments that are taking place in locally based centres of oncology excellence.
The West of Scotland Cancer Collaboration comprises the Beatson Oncology Centre, The Beatson Institute, and four associated Universities. Each main cd-rom section opens with a short introductory video, and there are filmed interviews with key people Professor Alan Rodger for the Beatson Oncology Centre, Professor Karen Vousden for the Beatson Institute and Professor John Coggins, Dean of the Faculty of the Institute of Biological and Life Sciences at the University of Glasgow.
There is a wealth of information about each of the organisations featured on the cd-rom, and the content has been constructed so that website hyperlinks can be used to guide viewers to any more specific details they may seek. There are pages dedicated to Cancer Research UK and Nexxus, and the many benefits of living and working in the West of Scotland are highlighted.
The cd-rom, jointly financed by the Beatson Fund and Scottish Enterprise Glasgow, has been produced by communications specialist Pennie Taylor, who is a Glasgow-based journalist and former BBC Scotland Health Correspondent.
The West of Scotland is ideally-placed to attract the finest cancer clinicians and scientists, says Pennie. Unprecedented investment in facilities such as the new BOC being built at Gartnavel and the state-of-the-art Beatson Institute at Garscube will place Glasgow at the cutting-edge of international oncology practice and research. This is one way of spreading the word about the amazing professional opportunities that exist here, and attracting the staff who will make it all happen.
