A Scots medical devices company has signed a deal with the Dutch health service to supply software that can cut patients time in hospital and improve their care.
Glasgow based Informatics CIS is providing their Synopsis IQ web-based pre operative assessment and risk management system, to the Diakonessenhuis hospital group with locations in Utrecht, Zeist and Doorn.
The software allows standard medical history forms to be filled in on-line from home, cutting hours off the amount of time patients spend in hospital.
The system then uses this information to automatically diagnose potential risks on the operating table and to suggest appropriate post operation aftercare.
Product development support was provided by Scottish Enterprise Glasgow.
Synopsis IQ is a valuable addition to the anaesthetists range of tools. The information it can provide will enhance the patients experience during their visit to hospital and support the clinical team in making difficult decisions, said Tom Hurrell, Informatics business development manager.
This not only means patients can spend less time in hospital, it also allows highly skilled medical staff to prioritise their time, and their cases, more effectively, he said.
Founded in 1991 Informatics provides a range of IT solutions for the healthcare sector.
The company currently has a customer base of over 80 clinical sites in 21 countries with two other related medical information software products. The company is hoping the £70,000 deal will be an important breakthrough into the lucrative European health market.
In our search for a new preoperative assessment tool, which had to be web based, evidence based, support the workflow and provide decision support, we finally found Synopsis-IQ. Helping the anaesthesiologist to better manage patients, risk and outcomes, Synopsis-IQ is the perfect fit," said Dr Peter Houweling, Head of Anaesthesia, Diakonessenhuis, Utrecht.
SE Glasgows business development director, Gordon Maclennan said: Synopsis IQ brings real time benefits both to patients and medical staff and is an excellent example of the world class research and development going on in the city in this sector.
