The University of Glasgow, in partnership with the Childrens Hospice Association Scotland (CHAS), will hold an art sale to raise funds for the University Vet Schools new Small Animal Hospital and Robin House: a new childrens hospice in Balloch.
Artevent 2005 will take place on 2 and 3 December at the Wolfson Medical School Building on University Avenue and includes over 170 pieces of art and books donated by well known Glasgow alumni.
Generous donors, who range from local amateur artists to artists of international renown, include: Mairi Aitken, Louise Annand, Mary Batchelor, Willie Rodger, Pollyanna Pickering and Alma Wolfson. Prices range from £100 to £2,000. A number of University of Glasgow alumni authors have donated signed copies of their books, including Christopher Brookmyre, Rodge Glass (who has recently been nominated for a Saltire award), Rachel Seiffert and Zoe Strachan. Ceramics, stained glass panels and handmade jewellery will also be on sale.
Cathy Bell, Director of the Development and Alumni Office, comments: We are delighted that the quality of art is extremely high this year, with works by some of Scotlands best amateur artists. The sale has a wide price range, which means there is something available for every pocket!
'Our Veterinary Faculty runs one of the busiest animal hospitals in the country. This means we have expanded rapidly and outgrown our existing building. To allow us to provide 21st century facilities to our patients, we urgently need a new £10 million hospital, pioneering future standards in animal treatment and welfare and training up current and future vets and nurses to respond to new challenges in veterinary medicine.

The quality and range of art on sale is overwhelming and we are sure the event will be a huge success - just like our new hospice, Robin House. Scotlands second childrens hospice in Balloch by Loch Lomond, has been welcoming children with life-limiting conditions and their families since it opened in August 2005. Artevent is a great opportunity to support Robin House and the University Vet Schools Animal Hospital, we extend our thanks to all artists who have supported this event.
Artevent is open to the public on Friday 2 and Saturday 3 December between 11am and 7pm.
