DELOITTE FAST 50 AWARDS TO HONOUR SCOTTISH LIFE SCIENCES COMPANY

14 July 2005

Call goes out for technology sector’s 50 fastest growing firms

Leading professional services firm Deloitte has launched its 2005 Fast 50 programme in Scotland, in a bid to find the country’s 50 fastest growing technology companies.

The awards, which take place at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre on Thursday 3 November, will also feature a special award for life sciences in recognition of the excellence that exists within this sector in Scotland.

In 2004 the, then called, biotech award was presented to Ardana Bioscience Ltd. The pharmaceutical company which specialises in reproductive health products could be looking to make it a hat-trick after also winning the award in 2003.

Neil Cruickshanks, head of technology at Deloitte in Scotland, said: “The life sciences award is a great addition to our Fast 50 programme. The life sciences sector in Scotland has never been stronger and more Scottish companies are leading the way on the global stage.

The future is bright for this industry and it’s important that we recognise the efforts of those involved and this award provides an ideal platform to do so.”

The closing date for Fast 50 nominations is Friday 2 September and to be eligible for the life sciences award, a company must meet the following criteria:

· Be headquartered in Scotland

· Typically working in the fields of human or animal healthcare including:

  • Diagnostics
  • Disease prevention & monitoring
  • Therapeutics
  • Vaccines
  • Nutrition
  • Environment protection
  • Remediation
  • Provision of technology services to such companies

· Have created intellectual property with global potential

Full criteria for the other awards – including technology start-up – can be found on Deloitte’s specially-dedicated website www.fast50.co.uk . Any other enquiries should go to Louise Freer at Deloitte on or
