North Carolina-based scientific research services firm PPD Inc has announced plans to expand its operations in Lanarkshire. The company will create up to 95 additional jobs in the fields of data management, biostatistics, clinical trials management and monitoring by the year 2007.
PPD currently employs approximately 220 professionals in Lanarkshire.
Colin Shannon, executive vice president of international clinical operations for PPD said: "Increased demand for our drug development services prompted the need for a larger base of operation to serve our clients. We chose to expand our Lanarkshire operations rather than move elsewhere, because of the quality workforce and business-friendly environment."
In conjunction with the expansion, PPD will consolidate its current Lanarkshire locations in Carnwath and Bellshill to a purpose-built facility at Strathclyde Business Park. The 3,159-square-metre facility is expected to open in summer 2006.
The project has been supported with a grant offer of £3 million under the Scottish Executive's regional selective assistance scheme.
