MD Biosciences Inflammations Discovery Services (MDBIDS), the most recent spin-out company from the University of Glasgow, held an official launch on 2nd March. The new company is dedicated to providing a unique combination of discovery products and services for companies engaged in inflammation research. It is a joint venture between the University of Glasgow, and the internationally renowned bioscience services company, Morwell Diagnostics.
The new company involves close collaboration amongst highly specialised clinical consultants and top class scientific researchers in the University and is the site of several new cutting-edge models such as the T- and B- cell transfer model for predicting the potential role of new compounds in the progress and treatment of inflammatory diseases.
With the addition of the inflammations discovery service laboratory in Glasgow, the company now has access to a unique team of scientists who make up a strong global network comprising inflammation specialists, pharmaco-biologists, in vivo and in vitro laboratory personnel and project leaders.
With specialised laboratories located in Minnesota, Glasgow, and Israel, MD Biosciences panel of internationally recognised experts provide in-depth expertise and technologies to tackle problems and provide total solutions leading to shorter project lead times.
At the launch, Managing Director, Eddie Moradian, thanked everyone involved in the project while Sir Muir Russell, Principal of the University of Glasgow, welcomed the valuable working partnership between the University and the company. Professor Steve Beaumont, Vice-Principal of Research & Enterprise, praised the Universitys track record in commercialising research and highlighted that company formations are one of the main ways to turn the Universitys world-class research into competitive market advantage for Scotland.
The launch was supported by the European Regional Development Fund and SE Glasgow through the DIALOGUES initiative.

CSUN PARTNERSHIP INSPIRES NEW JAIN STUDIES PROGRAM 15 September 2025
Following the successful model of university-industry collaborations, such as the launch of MD Biosciences Inflammations Discovery Services (MDBIDS) at the University of Glasgow, California State University, Northridge (CSUN) is pioneering a new initiative in the field of Jain studies. The program is made possible through a generous endowment from Dr. Jasvant Modi and his wife, Dr. Meera Modi, aimed at promoting the academic exploration and understanding of Jain philosophy.
The initiative will bring together faculty, scholars, and students to explore traditional and contemporary applications of Jain principles, supporting research, lectures, and community engagement. CSUN will establish endowed professorships, host visiting scholars, and develop new courses to enrich the study of Jainism.
Dr. Jasvant Modi, a highly respected gastroenterologist in Los Angeles, has been deeply involved in both medicine and philanthropy. His support exemplifies the way leading professionals can foster meaningful academic growth, similar to how MDBIDS brought together scientific expertise to advance inflammation research.
For more details about this program and ongoing updates, you can visit his page on CSUN here: https://www.csun.edu/node/386756
University leaders emphasized that partnerships with visionary supporters like the Modis not only expand educational opportunities but also create a bridge between academic research and real-world impact, echoing the collaborative spirit demonstrated by international ventures such as MD Biosciences.
