WORLD LEADING RHEUMATIC DISEASE EXPERTS MEET IN GLASGOW TO DISCUSS THE COMBATING OF ARTHRITIC DISEASE

21 February 2005

Leading experts in the area of rheumatology, based at the University of Glasgow, are to host the European Workshop for Rheumatology Research (EWRR) 25th meeting between Thursday 24 and Sunday 27 February 2005. The EWRR has for the last quarter of a century been the premier meeting in Europe for exchange of new and exciting data driven fundamental advances in understanding arthritis and rheumatic diseases.

'It is clearly an honour for the city of Glasgow to be hosting such an exciting event,' explains Iain McInnes, Professor of Experimental Medicine at the Centre for Rheumatic Diseases at the University of Glasgow.

'We have top class arthritis research based here at the University of Glasgow, and the hosting of this conference comes at a crucial time for research into combating these crippling diseases. We are in the most exciting phase of arthritis research – the EWRR is a focus to ensure that progress continues.'

The meeting format will comprise invited lectures, state of the art overviews and predominantly the presentation of original research in the form of oral and poster presentations.

Pulling together expert opinion from all over the world, including the countries Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Greece, the Netherlands, Poland, Switzerland, the UK and Ireland, and the USA, the meeting is aimed at active researchers in the field of rheumatic diseases, bone biology and inflammation. A critical component of the meeting is the close interaction between scientists and clinical researchers working in the field.

The conference will be held in the Glasgow Moat House, and offers an excellent, compact environment for this event. Its location immediately adjacent to the historic River Clyde offers an ideal venue for an interactive workshop with facilities designed to foster exchange of information, and discussions in a discreet environment.
