Dr Morag Thow, lecturer in Glasgow Caledonian Universitys Physiotherapy Division, was awarded an MBE in the New Year Honours List.
Dr Thow was presented with the award in recognition of her services to healthcare after many years spent dedicated to the investigation of cardiac rehabilitation.
Dr Thow was prompted to investigate this field of study after her mother underwent pioneering heart surgery in the seventies. Following her mums operation, Dr Thow realised that patients had no real programme of aftercare, and she set about to change this, successfully helping to set up Glasgow's first rehabilitation unit with the Western Infirmary and Gartnavel Hospital.
