This year, Munro Challenge will raise funds for a new appeal, the Field Station at Rowardennan - a unique University resource on beautiful Loch Lomond. In 1946, the University established the first scientific field research and teaching station in Britain. Now, a state-of- the-art £6m facility is planned on this unique site in the National Park. With sustainable construction and energy efficiency as priorities, this will be one of the 'greenest' buildings in Scotland. From examining the history of pollution and the effects of climate change to the behaviour of insects, birds and fish the Field Station also trains over 600 undergraduates each year, many of whom go on to work in our threatened environment throughout the world. Your support will help us to conduct more research to tackle environmental problems, train more graduates to work in skilled environmental jobs and extend our role to provide a valuable resource in the areas of public understanding of science, for schools and the wider community. Sponsorship forms will be sent out to you once you register for Munro Challenge.
As an added incentive, once again there will be prizes on offer for the best photograph at the top and for the most money raised with sponsors to date including Stravaigin, Di Maggio's, GFT and Cotswold Outdoor.
Simply choose which hill(s) you would like to climb (that have not already been chosen), organise a team, and let me know what you would like to put your name down for. The website www.munromagic.com has excellent information on all the Munros with regard to location, difficulty, route etc. All hills will be allocated on a first come first served basis. Teams should be between 2 and 8 in number and include at least one experienced walker. If you would like to join another team, then let me know and I will try and arrange this for you. All participants will be asked to sign a disclaimer and be provided with safety guidelines. We are happy to organise briefing sessions for less experienced walkers - please let me know if you would be interested in these.
