South Korea - with a population of 47 million - is the worlds 12th largest economy. Seoul at 10.5 million people is one of the worlds largest cities. Its economy is much closer to mature OECD economies than to those of South-East Asia.
The Korean government is investing in long term plans to develop and promote the Life Sciences industry in Korea. A number of government ministries including the Ministry of Health and Welfare (MOHW) and the Ministry of Commerce/Industry/Energy (MOCIE), support university research, fund government research institutes, and assist company R&D through a variety of initiatives. The majority of this type of support has been allocated to drug development projects. As a result of Scottish Development Internationals on-going relationship with Korea Health Industry Development Institute (KHIDI) we would like to offer you the opportunity to attend a seminar to hear about how you can access the 2005/2006 round of funding for the International Collaborative Research Programme for Drug Development (ICRPDD) *see text box in download
This exciting event will take place on Wednesday 18th May, 2005 in Lecture Theatre B, The Chancellors Building, 49 Little France Crescent, Edinburgh.
This programme is funded by the Korean Ministry of Health and Welfare and offers companies in Scotland the chance to compete for up to £6 million of funding for your project over the next 6 years. Six key research themes qualify for funding under this scheme (cardiovascular, oncology, infectious disease, diabetes, immunology, CNS).
This afternoon seminar will give you an opportunity to hear about the experiences of the two successful Scottish recipients from the 2004-2005 funding round, and to hear direct from the key players in Koreas pharmaceutical industry about the projects for which they are currently seeking Scottish collaborators. There will also be opportunities to participate in networking and partnering activities around the event as well as an opportunity to display your research information on posters during the lunch and reception sessions.
