Professor Chris Packard

Research & Development Lead Officer, North Glasgow Trust.Chris was initially the Research and Development Director for Glasgow Royal Infirmary in 2000. Following reorganisation he was appointed North Glasgow Trust Lead Officer for R & D. He is responsible for establishing systems in North Glasgow Trust conducive to the conduct of highest quality non-commercial and commercial research and development. He also manages the staff within the Research Offices of the Trusts component institutions and oversees the operations which are fundamental in underpinning the tracking and accounting of both commercial and non-commercial research within North Glasgow.

Additionally he is a member of the Scottish Enterprise (Glasgow) Glasgow Bioscience Committee where he is actively involved in facilitating communication, knowledge sharing and collaboration between organisation (private and public sector) involved in bioscience and related activities in the West of Scotland. The committee was founded early 2000.

Professor Packard is a Consultant Clinical Scientist in the Institute of Biochemistry at Glasgow Royal Infirmary. Receiving both first (BSc Hons, 1st Class), second (PhD) third (D.Sc) degrees from Glasgow University he was appointed as an Honorary Professor associated with the Faculty of Medicine in 1995. He is active in the study of cholesterol metabolism and its relationship to ischaemic heart disease. This activity has resulted in over 300 publications. He has been accorded Fellowship of Royal College of Pathologists (FRCPath), the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons in Glasgow (FRCP(Gla)) and the Royal Society in Edinburgh (FRSE).
