Gordon Bickerstaff

Gordon Bickerstaff followed up his first degree in Biochemistry at Heriot-Watt University with a Ph.D. from the University of Stirling where he undertook work on the subunit structure of the muscle enzyme creatine kinase. He spent a year at the University of Dundee as a Wellcome research fellow/temporary lecturer in the Department of Biochemistry where he undertook purification and characterization of rat liver glucose-6-phosphatase. He came to Paisley in 1980, was appointed senior lecturer in 1990, and became Associate Head of Department in 1997. His teaching expertise covers aspects of protein biochemistry, enzyme and protein technology, and biotechnology. He is presently leading a group biotechnologists in the Biotechnology Transfer Centre.
